T&T Martial Arts, Ltd.
Instructor Biography:
Melissa Di Blasi
4th Degree Black Belt
1.) When did you begin and how long have you been training in the Martial Arts? Almost 8 years. My brother and I started training with Grand Master Moo H. Kim in September of 1999. 2.) Why did you begin training in the Martial Arts? I began training in Martial Arts because of my brother Aaron. The day he approached me, I was surprised. He was going down to see Master Kim about training in Tae Kwon Do and I decided to go along. To this day, I really don't know why I went with him. At first I really didn't think about it, but once I was in Master Kim's office, one thing led to another, and before I knew it I was walking downstairs with a uniform in my hand. Then it hit me... I was about to train in Martial Arts! I never knew what I was in for! My reasons for training in Martial Arts have changed a lot over the years. Since the beginning of my Martial Arts career I have wanted to learn to fight better and defend myself, and I have, but later my reasons focused in on wanting to develop a stronger female influence in the school and provide a training atmosphere where women, men, and kids of all walks of life can train hard and experience true mutual prosperity in Martial Arts. 3.) What does Martial Arts mean to you? Martial Arts are a way of life for me. Not in the old traditional sense. We don't live in an era that we need to use Martial Arts for hand to hand combat anymore, but in the sense that if you love something and dedicate yourself to it, you can accomplish anything. 4.) Under what Master(s) have you achieved your current Rank(s)? I have trained under Grand Master Moo H. Kim for the majority of my Martial Arts career. I have also trained with Master Ted Beltavski. 5.) What specific Martial Arts have you trained in, and for how long? I have trained in Traditional Style Tae Kwon Do for almost 8 years, Judo for 5 years, Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing and MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) for 2 years. 6.) What is your favorite Martial Art to train in and why? That's hard to say. At some point you mold all of your Martial Arts together into a style that suits you personally. I love Tae Kwon Do, but MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) is a big runner up! 7.) What aspect of Martial Arts do you believe you excel in the most comfortably? I have geared my training to encompass all of the elements that make a good Martial Artist, but I excel at teaching. 8.) When did you begin and how long have you been instructing? I began teaching in March of 2002. I have been actively teaching for over 4 years, and have been training 4-5 times a week for almost 8 years. 9.) Why did you begin instructing, and why do you continue? I answer this question with a smile on my face. I began teaching because I felt that the students did not have all of the available resources that they needed to be as competent in their training as they wanted to be. There was no female influence in our school and my training was quite different because of that. I wanted to create the kind of class that thrived on hard work and no stereotypes. Currently the classes that I teach are filled with the kind of students that would make any Master proud. These people have become the foundation of my own training and I learn as much from them as they do from me. I continue teaching so that I can be a part of this amazing mutual prosperity. 10.) What is your favorite Tae Kwon Do Technique and why? It sounds silly, but I would have to say the hopping front kick. Ask any PointMaster Competitor why! Commendations:
