T&T Martial Arts, Ltd.
Instructor Biography:
Kevin Slodic
4th Degree Black Belt
1.) When did you begin and how long have you been training in the Martial Arts? I have been training with Grand Master Moo H. Kim, at Kim's East Side, Lyndhurst School continuously since the summer of 1997. 2.) Why did you begin training in the Martial Arts? I was always somewhat of a health nut. I spent eleven years switching back and fourth from free weight training and nautilus equipment. I also ran 10K races for 6 years and I found myself getting bored. I always wanted to learn Martial Arts so one day I opened the phone book to the Martial Arts section and called the first place I found. However, they were closed. Fortunate for me, the second place, Master Kim's, was open. I made an appointment with Master Kim that afternoon and have been training ever since. 3.) What does Martial Arts mean to you? Lifestyle - pure and simple. 4.) Under what Master(s) have you achieved your current Rank(s)? My training has been completely under Grand Master Moo H. Kim since 1997 with supplemental training from Master Ted Beltavski for the last two years. 5.) What specific Martial Arts have you trained in, and for how long? I have trained primarily in Tae Kwon Do with a mixture of supplemental training in Hapkido and Judo under Grand Master Moo H. Kim. My last two years of training have included additional instruction in grappling with Master Ted Beltavski. 6.) What is your favorite Martial Art to train in and why? Tae Kwon Do is my preferred Martial Art because it is, as I describe it, simplistically complex. Sixteen basic techniques used individually and in combination to create the foundation for Self Defense. 7.) What aspect of Martial Arts do you believe you excel in the most comfortably? Forms have always been my favored aspect - probably because it showcases the artistic side of Martial Arts, and since I consider myself an artistic individual I find it appealing. I remember Master Kim telling me you may only need to protect yourself once or twice in a lifetime, the rest of your training opens your mind to the beauty of the art. 8.) When did you begin and how long have you been instructing? I began formally instructing the Monday evening class for Master Kim at the East Side, Lyndhurst School in 2002. 9.) Why did you begin instructing, and why do you continue? I find instructing classes is an integral part of my training. It truly helps to develop confidence as well as leadership skills. I continue instruction because I truly enjoy helping others realize their potential. 10.) What is your favorite Tae Kwon Do Technique and why? Whichever one allows me to win without injuring myself. Seriously though, it is probably the hopping front kick. It can cover a great deal of ground and, blocked or not, can deliver enough trembling shock to devastate an opponent. Strike first, strike hard, and let them know you came to play. Commendations: Eight time participant in Grand Master Kim's Annual Tae Kwon Do Championship Tournament held at Cleveland State University. |
